How to learn and understand without stress

textbook
  • Learning is acquiring new knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, preferences or understanding, and may involve synthesizing different types of information. Understanding (also called intellection) is a psychological process related to an abstract or physical object, such as a person, situation, or message whereby one is able to think about it and use concepts to deal adequately with that object.

Learning and understanding are both function of time. The more time you spend learning the better your chances are to understand. One of the reasons why most of us don't like to learn is because it is boring and the material involved might be too much as well, imagine reading a textbook of 2000 pages or a section of 40 pages. One of my electronics textbooks has 1001 pages while other has more than 1000 pages.

Sometimes I use a part of my memory called SPM to learn whenever I have a test next few days, using this part of my memory means I have to learn 3 or 2 days before the test because this part of my memory cannot hold data/information for more than one week approximately, although it varies sometimes. It might be very difficult to remember what ever you have learnt if you use this SPM few hours before the test. I recommend 2 days before the test although it depends on the material size.

I had to create a trick for learning boring topics which is the division of the material or instruction you want to learn into sections. For example if you want to learn from a material of 40 pages, divide it by 3 or 2. Take a break after you finish learning each division. Your break period should be determined reasonably by you. e.g. if you gonna have a test next few days, think about a less break time.

Ok here is what I do mostly: I read the material (textbook, notebook, PDF, or by whatever means the material comes) at the first time as if I am reading a story book just to get highlights of the images if there are some or the topics and the important parts like examples and so on, then secondly I try to divide it to sections by heart. I believe its not a good idea to read 40 pages at a go and think you understand everything. If you are someone like me that doesn't like to study too much then create a simple learning style that works. If you don't like learning but love passing then you may try my tricks. Please share your learning style with other readers by posting a comment to this post :). check back for more learning tricks.

May 3, 2009 at 12:06 pm My method for passing is to learn 24 hours before exam. How do I do this? As it is very difficult for me to learn by seeing things ( i have to hear them ) i meet with my friends (max two people), we buy about 2-5 RedBull drinks and than we sit for 24 hours and examine each other with questions concerning BORING topic.

In case topics i find interesting and i think that i would need them to achieve some goals, the learning way is different. I just practice, PRACTICE is even more important than knowledge. That is why in almost every job adverstisment they look for a guy with experience. And this way of learning is really fun, it makes you discover all the “formulas and rules” by yourselve so u will remember them very easily. How CT1 classes would be nice if after getting a task i.e about voltage drops accros resistors you would have to build your own circuit and than check whether your paper solution is correct using multimeter etc.

May 3, 2009 at 1:52 pm Sup Baldy. in addition to your comment about CT1, well I think you are right, just imagine learning Filters ( high or low or band , whatever ) which is mostly used in radio technology ( crystal radio and rest ), my point is that we all learnt something about Filters in CT1 but most of us don’t really know its purpose in real life, we mostly learn bunch of equations and formulas which kinda s***s, not directly our faults but the school system. Keep this: Only you can make your dreams come true.
